Parcels from outside the EU used to arrive duty free under €150. Now there is a flat €3 per item, on top of 23% VAT and whatever the carrier charges to handle it. On a €90 order from a British shop the extras usually land between €25 and €40.

The minimum age goes from 16 to 18, helmets and high visibility clothing become compulsory, and fines rise to €100. If an under-18 is caught on a scooter, the owner is the one fined. Registration has been reported as settled. It is not.

Rules as they stand since 1 July 2026: VAT at 23% on every import, a flat €3 for each type of product on consignments up to €150, and the normal tariff above that. Duty rates read from the EU TARIC database on 7 August 2026. An Post's €6.95 is published; the courier fees are indicative because none of them publish a consumer figure for Ireland.
